When a busy mother and her childhood friend unearth their buried time capsule, its contents reveal more about their friendship - and heritage - than either of them expected.
I was fortunate when actress and fellow Brandeis alum Elana Safar brought me aboard her deeply resonant short film as co-writer and director. Although we developed this piece on Jewish generational trauma in mid-2023, it was filmed in the months after the October 7 attacks, a time when we were, once again, brought face-to-face with the horror of what happens when the hatred of Jews goes unchecked.
The film is currently on the festival circuit, and is available for festival and community screenings.
THE PIRATE CAPTAIN TOLEDANO
Short Film - 10 Minutes - 2017
When a refugee from the Spanish Inquisition is caught aboard his ship, the Pirate Captain Toledano must decide whether to make the stowaway a pirate, or to make him walk the plank.
The world's first short film about Jewish pirates was made with the help of a successful crowdfunding campaign at the end of 2016.
In 2017, it began a globe-spanning festival run that would eventually reach fifty festivals on four continents.
After seven years on Amazon and other streaming platforms, the film is now available to viewers on Vimeo. It has also been adapted as a middle-grade graphic novel from Kar-Ben Publishing.
GLIMPSE
Feature Film - 77 Minutes - 2015
While on bereavement leave, Detective John Gillis struggles to cope with the loss of his wife. In his isolation, he investigates the unusual circumstances surrounding her death.
I was hired to direct this contained thriller for writer/producer Reid Taylor.
The film went on to win awards on the festival circuit, and is now available on Amazon.

JEWBELLISH: THE SHOW
Webseries - 2 Seasons - 2013
A sketch comedy series for the Jewish humor brand, "Jewbellish"
I wrote and directed many of the episodes (in addition to producing both seasons), and was proud to see them mentioned in a front-page Wall Street Journal article about the brand's creator, Mendy Pellin.
All the episodes are still available at the Jewbellish YouTube channel.
A MODEST SUGGESTION
Feature Film - 70 Minutes - 2011
Before I moved to Los Angeles, I had the opportunity to adapt this satirical comedy from the play by Ken Kaissar. It's a bit hard to find these days, but can still be purchased on DVD from Amazon.
The film was also my first opportunity to work with Mendy Pellin. I was fortunate to go on working with Mendy for several fun years on two seasons of "Jewbellish", a comedy webseries, as well as numerous music videos and other productions.
